> News: More women e-shoppers than men this holiday season?

According to a study by Pew Internet & American Life Project, close to 29 million web-users bought holiday gifts online during last year's holiday shopping season. The study also found that an increasing percentage of these holiday e-shoppers are women.

These figures are backed up by research collected by BizRate, who found that over the past few years the percentage of online holiday orders placed by women rose from just 39% in 1998 to over 56% in 2001. However, during the last weekend before Christmas, men placed 53% of online orders.

(Chart showing percentage of online holiday orders by gender, which shows women will probably place more orders than men this year.)

Since many of the products marketed through direct selling have a female target audience, these stats provide yet another reason why every member of your sales force should have a personal website for selling and recruiting.

> Feature Article: 4 ways to spread the word about your distributor website tools

Today, you rarely find network marketing or direct sales companies that do not offer distributor website tools to their sales force. Tools including self-replicating websites, order entry programs, and genealogy reports are quickly becoming a standard in the industry.

Success, however, isn't just about the effectiveness of a distributor website tool. Success is tied directly to the attention a company gives to its website tools. Properly training your distributors will greatly enhance the success of your website program.

You can truly turn your website tool into one that will help increase sales, prospecting efforts and training opportunities for your sales force. Also, your company will save time and money by teaching your distributors to use some of the basic features. This task may be accomplished by simply focusing a little more attention to your website program.

A few ideas to help you spread the word about your website tools:

1. Collect and share stories and testimonials from distributors who are having success using the website tools. You can utilize these stories in company newsletters, on voice mails, at corporate events and in promotional flyers. Sharing success-related stories will give others a sense of confidence that the tool is working for someone just like them.

2. Highlight a selected feature or benefit of the website tool in your published newsletters or email. It could be a short, simple lesson, such as "Did you know you can use email in your back office to announce new specials to your prospects and customers?" followed by some "how-to" instructions.

3. Design and place a flyer or demo CD-ROM about the website in every new distributor kit.

4. Host special breakout training at a national conference for hands-on training and demonstrations. This could be as formal or as informal as you deem necessary. We've seen a lot of success with one-on-one training or hosting a website booth where distributors can come ask questions.

If you don't remember anything else, remember this: The more you persist in promoting and training your sales force on website tools, the more they'll actually use them. They'll find greater confidence in using the tools, thus growing their (and your) business more rapidly than before.

November and December is a great time to get back on track to redefine your strategy for 2003. Don't forget to include the promotion of website tools in your strategy!
